Sophia Smith

Sophia is a dancer, teacher and choreographer based in Chicago, IL. She holds a BFA in Dance from The Ohio State University in 2021, with a focus in performance and choreography. During her time at Ohio State, Sophia had the pleasure of performing in several faculty and student created works, under the guidance of Eddie Taketa, Momar Ndiaye, Crystal Michelle Perkins, Susan Van Pelt Petry, Susan Hadley, and more. She was fortunate to travel abroad in OSU's Dance Denmark program, where she showcased her choreography in Slagelse, Odense, and Aalborg, and performed in a work choreographed by Daniel Roberts. Sophia performed in the opening ceremony of the 9th Saudi Film Festival in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, with Freckled Sky. She has enjoyed her time as a freelance artist, performing in multimedia projects with musical group Big Pal and choreographer Emily Craver. Outside of Niko8, Sophia has a passion for fitness and coaches group fitness classes through Orangetheroy Fitness. Sophia has attended various movement intensives to supplement her daily training, including Doug Varone and Dancers Winter Intensive (2022), Deeply Rooted Dance Theater Summer Dance Intensive (2020), ate9 Winter Dance Intensive (2019), and Generation IV Dance (2017-2019). Sophia is honored to perform alongside the incredible artists of Niko8!
